2012.02.21 -- AIKIDO VIDEO

I recorded tonight's Aikido class and clipped a small bit out for you. I'm wearing the red headband...

UPDATE!!! Yes, it's late. Yes, I should be in bed. Instead, I'm doing this...

I laugh every time I play it.

2012.03.09 -- GRADUATION

Kelly graduated from the WI-DNR Law Enforcement Academy.  She now carries badge #F233.  They were given their certificates, took their Pledge, swore their Oath, and were given their badges.  Within minutes, she received the Scholastic Award from the Division of Forestry Administrator for having the best grades in the class.

I have a bunch of pictures, but this is the only one you'll get for awhile...

2012.03.31 -- WILD TOMATOES

Almost missed posting this picture...
wild_tomatoes

One day, we took a walk NOT on the beach.  Marco Island is half land and half canal.  Crossing a bridge over one of the canals, we spotted a wild tomato plant nesting on the bridge support.  It was mid-March and the tomato already had several young that were nearly ready to fledge.  I had never seen one in the wild, only in captivity.

2012.05.19 -- FIRE!

Well, Fire Season isn't over, yet.  Kelly has had to work the last couple weekends, and I've been taking her lunch.  Not today...  I called to see what she wanted and she was headed to a fire.

This past week, they burned the Little Turtle Flowage Wildlife Area.  Here are a couple pictures...

They burn it every few years to keep the brush down so the waterfowl can nest in the grass.  They burn it this time of year because all the dead, dry grass burns fast.  It kills the brush but the grass will sprout soon.

A couple of the MECCA ski trails run right through where they burned.

2012.06.06 -- FUNNY COMIC

I recently found this one...

2012.06.07 -- AIKIDO TEST

I had an Aikido test Thursday night.  Here's a picture...

Click the picture for a bigger view.  I'll let you know about the video when I get it trimmed up.

2012.06.21 -- HAPPY (BELATED) STRAWBERRY DAY

UPDATE ---  Here is a picture of all the jars of jam...
jam--2012

Last Sunday was Strawberry Day.  I hope you had a good one.  We did.  We went up to Saxon Harbor Berry Farms and picked twenty-eight pounds...
strawberries--2012

That was a bit lower than average, but we still have a bunch of jars in the cabinet. The berries were big this year, so picking went pretty fast. Afterwards, we went to the Church and made four batches of strawberry jam (using about half the berries above) and one batch of super-mixed berry from Kelly's supply. Here she is cleaning out the pot...

We picked ten percent more berries than last year, but made fewer jars of jam.  The berries were ready about two weeks earlier than last year.

2012.07.02 -- HEY, ROCKY!

Kelly opened the chickens Saturday morning and found this in the kennel...

After the picture, she let it go.  It hung around long enough for her to take a couple more pics...

2012.07.03 -- BROWN BELT

We still haven't gotten the official results back from the main dojo down in Ann Arbor, but the instructor announced the results.  Everybody passed, and I received my brown belt...
brown_belt

I started Aikido in the winter of '91/'92 up at MTU. So, it's taken about twenty-and-a-half years to get a brown belt. I don't know for sure, but that has to be some sort of record. Of course, I did take off about sixteen years in the middle.

2012.07.04 -- HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kelly's family (parents and sister and her family) was up the holiday.  The town had a big celebration which included amusements for the kids.  Here's a picture of them on the waterslide...

2012.11.23 -- HAPPY POST-THANKSGIVING

What a difference a day can make!  Yesterday, it was sunny and beautiful here.  It made it up to 61.5°.  We had a wonderful time with the Harmons and Aunt Sue.  This is what we woke up to today...
