CHICKENS -- 2012
I think a swan has snuck into our chicken coop rather than flying south for the winter...
The egg on the right is almost "Jumbo" sized.
We had the crew out processing the chickens today. There were six of us, and it took almost three hours to get thirty-nine birds into coolers and clean up the equipment. We sold twenty-six to the crew for what it cost to raise them. We then went to a local tavern for lunch. Afterwards, Kelly and I finished up our birds. We parted five and bagged them in meal-sized portions. We kept three whole...
I haven't weighed them yet, but they're pretty good size. They're in shrink-wrap bags I found on the internet which should help protect them in the freezer.
Since Kelly was gone most of the winter at Law Enforcement school, we still have a bunch left from last year. So, we'll sell the last five birds to friends.
We use a dog crate for the chicks... We take the top off the bottom and push them together. That makes a hump in the middle where the door would usually be that the chicks can't get across when they first arrive. Well, they're running back-and-forth now, so Kelly moved the food over to the far side. The top half has windows on the side...
After taking that picture, I found this one on the camera...
